Ocala, Florida- July 26, 2018 – The Ocala/ Marion County Economic Partnership (CEP) is pleased to announce R&L Carriers as a major sponsor supporting the CDL Program at Marion Technical College (MTC). R&L Carriers, a family-owned and operated shipping company, donated
four trucks and trailers worth more than a half million dollars for students to learn and understand how to safely operate a semi- truck.
“We knew donating these trucks for the students would be invaluable in preparing them for careers in this field,” said R&L President of Logistics, Rob Bowman. “It was an opportunity we embraced hoping to help our local talent.”
“A gift like this not only means a lot to our program we hope it continues to help differentiate our students in the workforce,” said Executive Director of Career & Technical Education, Mark Vianello. “It’s the great partnerships that we have within our community and with the CEP that helped lead to this generous donation.”
The trucks will be used in collaboration with a brand new, state of the art semi – truck simulator for much of the training, the only such simulator in this part of Florida.
The CDL program is an eight-week training that includes 320 hours of instruction, meets Department of Transportation regulations, and eventually provides Class A licenses to graduates.
The Ocala/Marion County Chamber and Economic Partnership was created to be a one-stop hub for the community’s business attraction, creation and retention efforts. The CEP’s mission is to be THE catalyst for a prosperous community. The Moving Forward plan seeks to impact the creation of 4500 new jobs with wages 15% above the county average and resulting in a capital investment of $400 million by 2022.
