Second Annual Job Fair, Workshop Set
OCALA, Fla. (April 15, 2015) – Area youth interested in summer or regular employment, full- or part-time, are encouraged to attend the second annual Youth Job Fair on Tuesday, April 21 from 3-6 p.m. at the Howard Academy Community Center, 306 NW Seventh Ave., in Ocala.
The event, offered at no charge, is for job seekers ages 16-21 and features hiring managers representing local food service, customer service, labor and retail businesses. The Youth Job Fair is presented by CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion and its youth services provider, Henkels & McCoy.
Brian Conard, area operations manager for Henkels & McCoy, said the job fair offers older youth “opportunities to gain serious work experience and develop skills.”
Additionally, a free Job Fair 101 workshop is set for Friday, April 17 from 3-5 p.m. at the same location. Conard said there are still seats available for the workshop and those interested in attending should register online by visiting the Calendar of Events at careersourceclm.com.
The workshop is designed to help participants get the most out of their job fair experience. Conard said that all attendees, regardless of whether they attend the workshop, should show up at the job fair “eager to work, interview ready, with resume in hand and dressed professionally.” Job Fair preparation tips and strategies are also available at careersourceclm.com.
Last year, more than 320 youth attended the job fair. Conard noted the event is ideal for employers interested in hiring younger workers because their neighborhood businesses are where many youth already shop or eat and most are easy to get to by walking or bicycling.
