ELO Board Votes to Support Silver Springs International Film Festival

Posted on: February 14, 2014

Emerging Leaders of Ocala, a young professionals’ organization geared towards providing its members a platform to be influential and successful, met with Laurie Zink, the Executive Director of the Ocala Film Foundation on Wednesday.  The board voted in support of offering its members the opportunity to participate in welcoming young filmmakers to the Ocala area. Zink explained there is a growing list of opportunities to assist in various activities throughout the upcoming Silver Springs Film Festival. Activities begin on April 3rd and continue for four days, until April 6th. The festival recently acquired a digital copy of the original “Creature From The Black Lagoon” movie that was filmed at Silver Springs, home to the world’s largest artesian spring and recently added kayak guide service. The film festival will be hosted in Downtown Ocala, at the historic Marion Theatre. Festival director, Greg Thompson and Zink both agree this is the perfect opportunity to, “promote tourism, downtown revitalization and the arts, while at the same time, creating an economic impact for our community.” For more information about volunteering, attending the film festival or entering a project, visit springsfilmfest.com, or email If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Micki Bednar at bednar0718@yahoo.com.
